IHRC nominates Rehman Malik for International Peace Award

ISLAMABAD

The International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) nominated Interior Adviser Rehman Malik for the “International Peace Award 2008” for his role in the war against terrorism on Wednesday.

The interior adviser is the first male Pakistani and the third member of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), who has been nominated for the award.

Former PPP chairwoman Benazir Bhutto received the IHRC award in 1996. Information Minister Sherry Rehman has also received the award.

IHRC World Chairman Dr Muhammad Shahid Amin Khan said the award was a recognition for Rehman’s services in the war against terrorism. Khan said, “Rehman is fighting for Pakistan. He is committed to establishing peace and the rule of law.”

The interior adviser will receive the award in a ceremony scheduled for December 10 in New York. app
