Government urged to provide security at Swat schools

PESHAWAR: Former provincial minister for education Mairaj Hamayun Khan urged the government on Thursday to formulate a comprehensive policy to provide security to schools in Swat.

Mairaj who is the director of Delas Gul, an NGO, said militants had blown up over 100 schools up to date in the troubled areas of Swat depriving thousands of male and female students of education. However, the government had not yet taken any steps to provide protection to schools, she said while addressing a press conference.

Mairaj said the government had made no arrangements in tent villages for the schooling of those male and female students who left their homes in the troubled areas including Bajaur Agency because of which future of schoolchildren was in danger.

The Delas Gul director said her NGO had prepared a plan to establish mobile schools in areas where education facilities were not available. Mairaj said her NGO needed the cooperation of the government in this regard.
